In this 3-day workshop, we’ll examine the process of constructing a this swivel locket with its nested nook that can swing down to reveal the contents within. The nook can hold many things—keepsakes, photo, memorabilia or a special message. It’s like having a personal niche inside a pendant.
For this locket, the 960 Sterling mix (PMC Sterling & PMC3 clays) will be used because of its superior strength and ease of firing. Learn more about this wonderful mixture and how to make it flexible for certain applications.
The techniques covered are pattern making, paper templates, using textures, appliqués, dry construction, precision drilling, hinge construction & integration, friction- style closures, bail construction, cold connections, assemblage and finishing.
Each participant will learn to accurately cut and construct all the elements. Once fired, each participant will learn how to properly polish and assemble the locket. For some finishing touches, there will be a discussion about the using gold accents (Aura 22), the Keum-Boo technique, patinas and more.
